Texas Rush R.E.A.C.H Success
Texas Rush would like to give a BIG TEXAS thank you to Kasia Hickey (REACH volunteer coordinator) and Kelly St. Mary (REACH volunteer) for all their hard work, time and dedication to making this summer and fall 2013 REACH collections a success.
R.E.A.C.H (Rush Equipment Assisting Children) is a program that collects used or unwanted soccer equipment from Rush and other community members to donate to underprivileged children throughout the world. The generous donation of a soccer ball or soccer shirt can make a world of difference to a child that is going through troubled times. Rush encourages their members to donate used, unwanted or even new soccer equipment, such as balls, shoes, and shin guards so they can be distributed throughout the world to needy children.
Collections began in the summer, when the teams were getting ready for Rush Fest. The teams who participated in the event donated equipment, clothing, etc. and took 4 suitcases with R.E.A.C.H. donations to Colorado.
In September, Kasia and Kelly started the collections of uniforms for rebate (families who purchased new Adidas kits were eligible for a $20 rebate if they donated uniforms from previous years). They communicated the program to the managers of the competitive teams, and with their help we gathered the used uniforms from many players (over 20 teams participated). Collections were held at the Bear Branch pavilion during a two week period, during the hours when the competitive teams held their training session.
